ABOUT SPSA

Suicide Prevention Services of America (SPSA) was established by its visionary founder, Stephanie Weber, in Batavia, Illinois, on May 29, 1998. As an organization deeply committed to the cause of suicide prevention, SPSA distinguishes itself as one of only seven agencies across the United States providing a comprehensive suite of services dedicated to this critical mission. At the heart of our offerings is the 988 LifeLine, a vital resource offering immediate support to individuals in crisis, ensuring that help is just a call away, any time of the day or night.

Beyond the hotline, SPSA’s multifaceted approach to suicide prevention encompasses a range of supportive services and educational programs designed to address the various facets of mental health challenges and suicide prevention. This includes personalized counseling sessions, which offer a safe space for individuals to discuss their struggles and seek professional guidance. We also conduct depression screenings, an essential step in identifying those at risk and providing them with the necessary interventions.

Education and outreach form a cornerstone of SPSA’s efforts to combat suicide. Through workshops and prevention training programs, we empower our community with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize signs of suicide and respond effectively. SPSA’s intervention programs in schools are particularly noteworthy, aiming to create safe and supportive environments for students, fostering awareness, and preventing suicide among the youth.

Recognizing the importance of community support, SPSA facilitates support groups that offer solace and understanding to those affected by suicide. Furthermore, our annual awareness events serve as powerful platforms for raising public consciousness about suicide, breaking down stigmas, and promoting a culture of openness and support.

SPSA’s commitment to excellence and adherence to best practices in suicide prevention is underscored by our certification from the American Association of Suicidology, renewed every five years. This accreditation is a testament to our dedication to maintaining the highest standards of service and effectiveness in our life-saving work.

The mission of Suicide Prevention Services of America is to open minds, save lives, and restore hope through prevention, intervention, and postvention, using education, advocacy, and collaboration.
