Maureen Horan, MSW, LSW

Hi! My name is Maureen Horan and I got involved with Suicide Prevention Services in 2020 for my Bachelor of Social Work internship while attending Aurora University. Since that time, I graduated from Aurora University with my Master of Social Work and always stayed in touch with the wonderful people at SPS.

Upon graduation I was offered the position of Coordinator of Paraprofessionals, which I enthusiastically accepted because I love the message of this organization and the work that everyone here does.

I am patiently waiting on obtaining my license in social work and will also be testing to get my certificate in drug and alcohol counseling.

Along with being passionate about helping those dealing with substance abuse issues, I also have an interest in working with those struggling with depression and anxiety.

When someone is struggling with any of those issues staying grounded and remaining in the present moment is incredibly important and mindfulness is a therapeutic approach I love to use because it is a tool that can be versatile, and a client can put it in their back pocket to use in times of need.

I am also someone that loves pop culture and believes that different forms of media can be utilized to help people work through the issues.

In my free time I enjoy playing video games, reading any book I can get my hands on, and working on projects with my Cricut. I also love spending time with my dog Finn and cat Dean.
